Shopping Carts: location… location… location…
June 15, 2006
If you own a retail store or manage one, and want a simple way to increase sales read on…
One of my favorite business books is “Why we Buy?” by Paco Underhill. Though some may say it contains a lot of “basic” observations, most of us don’t have the time to observe our customers, and that’s how Mr. Underhill makes a living.
One of the best ideas in his book is the simplest: Place shopping carts and baskets throughout the store, not just in the front.
That’s it. A simple idea that will drive sales and cost you almost nothing to implement.
If you had the time to observe your customers, you would notice how many of them walk into your store and go straight to the product they need… never grabbing a shopping cart because they’re on a mission to purchase a few items. I’ve done it. I always do it. Don’t you? Watch your customers and see how many are juggling products in their hands, trying not to drop them.
What if you customer’s had access to shopping cart’s throughout the store? Would they buy more? Probably. It won’t cost you much to find out.
